As we move toward the middle of summer, we are already thinking about and planning for this year’s Annual Meeting of the Members. In recent years, Wheatsfield’s annual meeting has been scheduled in mid-November. This year we have decided to hold the meeting in October instead. The 2017 Annual Meeting of the Members will be held on Wednesday, October 25 at Prairie Moon Winery beginning at 5pm. Besides the great food, the beer and wine and the report on the past year’s successes that occur at the meeting, the introduction of the board candidates and the final voting in the annual board election will also take place.
Moving the meeting to October accelerates the timeline for the annual board election process. Normally you would find the annual call for candidates to run in the board election in the September newsletter. Due to the change in the newsletter scheduling from bi-monthly to quarterly and the change of the Annual Meeting of the Members to be held in October, you will find the Call for Candidates written by board member Caroline Krejci on the previous page of this newsletter. The deadline for the submission of the candidate application for members interested in running for a seat on the 2018 Board of Directors will be Monday, August 21. The Nominations and Recruitment Committee will present a slate of candidates for approval at the regular board meeting scheduled for Wednesday, August 23. Candidate statements, voting information and the ballot will be published in the Oct/Nov/Dec Field Journal that you will receive in early October. Electronic and paper ballot voting will commence as soon as members receive the newsletter and will culminate at the Annual Meeting of the Members on October 25.
Mid-November and the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving are some of the busiest for the co-op and our staff. We decided to move the date of the annual meeting to help alleviate some of the pressure on staff, especially the deli team who have had to prepare the food for the annual meeting dinner while also juggling special orders, pies and all of the other holiday foods. Hopefully this also means that we will be able to avoid any bad weather issues that would keep members from attending the annual meeting. We look forward to seeing you in October.
