Another year has slipped by and it’s time for the Wellness staff to weigh in on our favorite wellness products for 2018! Below are some products that that we use regularly and find ourselves recommending in the aisles. We feel fortunate in the Wellness Department to work with so many great member-owners and customers who share our passion for health. Here’s to another year of healthy living!
HONEY GARDENS – ELDERBERRY SYRUP
Honey Gardens syrup has been a favorite since we first introduced it this fall. Elderberries have traditionally been used to support a healthy immune system, making this is a great item to have in your ‘wellness cabinet’ during the cold and flu season. Made with raw honey, elderberries, apple cider vinegar, echinacea and propolis, this syrup has a nice berry flavor.
ACURE – ROSE BODY OIL SPRAY
This argan and coconut oil based body spray is known as a ‘dry’ oil, as it is lightweight and absorbed quickly into the skin. Use this right out of the shower (with or without a little extra lotion) to leave your skin feeling hydrated and soft during the winter months. The wonderful rose scent creates an aromatherapy experience at the same time!
OREGON’S WILD HARVEST – MUSCLE RELAX
Muscle Relax is a winning combination of organic valerian, skullcap, and hops. I like to use this before bed to help with sleep and relaxation. Oregon’s Wild Harvest is our newest herb company and is a family-owned business we are excited to support. A majority of the company’s herbs are grown on their own Oregon farm using sustainable organic and biodynamic growing methods. The line is USDA certified organic, non-GMO, gluten-free, and uses no fillers.
These facial wipes are made with a really cool product called micellar water –what’s that, you ask?? It’s tiny beads of cleansing oil suspended in soft water that act like a magnet to trap impurities. These rose-scented wipes are super soft and work amazingly well to easily remove makeup with no drying of the skin or rinsing. You can also use them anytime you just need to freshen up the skin. Made with ecofriendly, biodegradable and compostable fiber.
NORDIC NATURALS – ULTIMATE OMEGA-3 WITH VITAMIN D
Nordic is a brand that is another staff and customer favorite (and a top seller nation-wide as well!). This socially responsible, family-owned company is dedicated to the freshest, highest quality fish oil products and sustainable fishing practices. Nordic fish oil is certified by Friends of the Sea. Their distillation methods ensure there are no heavy metals, dioxin, or PCBs, and every batch is 3rd party tested. Freshness is possibly the most important factor when consuming fish oil, and their oxygen-free manufacturing process maintains freshness. Ultimate Omega-3 provides a double-strength dose of heart healthy and brain healthy omega-3 fats and includes your daily requirement of Vitamin D. Another noteworthy distinction- distilled fish oil means no fishy aftertaste or burbs! Yea!
SCHMIDT’S – NATURAL BERGAMOT LIME DEODORANT
Schmidt’s deodorant has several fans in the Wellness Department. This is a truly clean, natural formula with a light pleasing scent. With simple, pronounceable ingredients like shea butter, arrowroot powder, and baking soda, Schmidt’s set out to formulate a natural deodorant that would really work. Our consensus is they accomplished their goal!
EVAN HEALY – SHEA BUTTER LIP BALM
This is…..hands down……the best lip balm on the planet! (I’m only exaggerating a little here). Evan Healy is one of the department’s favorite facial care companies based on their passion for sourcing the highest quality ingredients. I cannot imagine going through an Iowa winter without this lip balm; it just has the perfect mix of wax and oil. The balm combines all organic ingredients including sunflower seed oil, coconut oil, olive oil, argan oil, and shea butter.
NUTIVA – MCT ORGANIC COCONUT OIL
Nutiva’s organic medium chain triglyceride (MCT) oil is processed from coconuts without hexane or other harmful chemicals and has the highest amount of MCT’s of any brand. This organic oil has a light coconut flavor and can be added to smoothies, shakes, and coffee for a morning boost. MCT’s are easily digested, provide energy, and support healthy metabolism and are great for athletes, vegans, and those following paleo diets.
WELEDA – SKIN FOOD HAND CREAM
Weleda’s Skin Food is just like its name implies – food for the skin. When little else works on my dry chapped hands, skin food comes to the rescue! Weleda’s products have a loyal following because they create clean formulas that work. This formula uses chamomile and calendula in an ultra-hydrating, thick emollient cream that is especially good to use at night. I love the smell too, which is a light citrusy scent reminiscent of grapefruit.
SOLORAY – MYCROBIOME PROBIOTICS
Most of us are aware of the importance of maintaining a healthy gut microbiome. Each of us has a unique microbiome makeup. Trillions of these healthy bacteria in our gut help us digest food, assist in manufacturing vitamins, support a healthy immune system, and regulate mood. Solaray has introduced a new line of high potency probiotics providing up to 24 strains of healthy gut bacteria. The prebiotic inulin is added in to help give the bacteria a healthy start. This line offers targeted formulas for men and women with a high potency of 30 billion and 50 billion respectively, and also an extra high 100 billion potency urgent care formula. t.
