
Here are highlights from the June 2024 Wheatsfield Board of Directors meeting:
- Ribbon-cutting for Wheatsfield’s 50th anniversary will be held on Wednesday, August 14th at 4:30pm on the patio at the Co-op. The Board, Staff and members are invited to attend.
- The Board adopted an eighth cooperative principle that focuses on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), using broader National Co-op Grocers’ and other co-ops’ recently adopted DEI principles as references.
- The food coops of National Co-op Grocers adopted an 8th cooperative principle: diversity, equity and inclusion.
- “As a cooperative, we believe we are stronger when a proactive effort is put forth to engage everyone in governance, management, and representation. We will be successful when everyone feels that they belong at Wheatsfield.”
- Wheatsfield staff continues preparation for large upcoming events, including the July 4th parade on Thursday, July 4th and the 50th Anniversary Groovy Golden Jubilee Party on Sunday, September 15th.
- The General Manager reported an increase in daily customer averages (up 2.6%) and average daily sales (up 1.54%) from May of 2023.
- Elections for the Wheatsfield Board will be held in October in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the Members. All interested applicants can find the Board Candidate Packet online at Wheatsfield.coop or pick up a printed copy at the co-op. Deadline for submitting applications is 11:59 pm on Monday, August 12. There is also a student board member position which is appointed by the Wheatsfield Board with a term that runs from September 2024 through August 2025 that applicants are being sought for. There is a Student Board Candidate Packet available for that position online and printed copies at the co-op for any students interested in learning more. Deadline for submitting applications for the student board member position is also 11:59 pm on Monday, August 12.
