Event: Slash Your Trash Tabling and Enter to win!
Learn about ways you can reduce your own waste and pledge to Slash Your Trash! We will be set up to “Talk Trash” with members and customers and hope you stop by with some of your own ideas and make your pledge. Place your pledge in the Slash Your Trash Can to enter our Free Giveaway to win!
You can complete your pledge card throughout April to be entered in our Free Giveaway Drawing of a $25 Co-op Gift Card plus reusable gifts!
Tuesday, April 19, 6-7:30pm
Class: Composting with Worms, Free!
Come hear and see how easy it is to turn your food scraps into compost. Vermiculture is a process of composting which holds a particular appeal to homeowners and apartment dwellers alike since you can utilize worms, in a bin, to compost food waste year round. The worms do all the work! You’ll leave this class with specific instructions on what you need to get started with this efficient method of composting and some worms to get you started.

Class: How to Grow Food in Iowa, Free!
Join vegetable farmer Alice for this beginner’s class, which will touch on what, when and how to plant a home food garden with tips on how to manage weeds and pests organically. Learn the basics of soil, how to read a seed packet, look at Extension publications to figure out when to plant and when to harvest, as well as how to prepare your garden plot. There will also be time to ask your personal questions, and you will get to take home some spring seedlings to plant.

Class: Beginner Bike Repair, Free!
Want to learn how to fix a flat or to oil your chain? Some simple preventative maintenance can keep your bike working well and help you avoid costly future repairs. Join iconic Skunk River Cycles owner, Ronn Ritz, as he talks you through some of the basics of bike repair. Ronn will not have time to work on each bike in the class, but you can address specific questions if you bring your bike with you.

Saturday, April 23, 10am-2pm
Event: Plant Some Seeds, With the Board!
Come one, come all! Join Co-op Board Members outside the store to start your garden and have a chat over coffee. We will provide a selection of local Seed Savers Exchange seeds and seedling cups with soil. Get a head start on your garden! Ask questions, provide feedback, and enjoy coffee while you plant. Community Volunteer Event: Stash the Trash
Stash the Trash is an annual volunteer community clean-up opportunity. Participants choose an area of the city to pick up litter and drop it off at the dumpster located in the parking lot at Reiman Gardens, 1407 University Blvd. The dumpster will be available from Friday, April 29, through Sunday, May 1, to drop off garbage collected during the community clean-up.
Volunteers may pick up bags at the Resource Recovery Plant, 110 Center Ave., or the east lobby of City Hall, 515 Clark Ave., beginning Monday, April 18. Bags will also be available the morning of April 30 at the dumpster location. For more information, please call the Resource Recovery Plant at 515.239.5137. Learn more here.

Community Volunteer Event: Ioway Creek Stream Clean-Up
Last fall, volunteers removed over 2,500 pounds of trash from Ioway Creek in Ames. Help them finish the job! Volunteers for this event must register by Monday, April 25. The event is co-hosted with Iowa State University Facilities and Planning Management, ISU Office of Sustainability, Prairie Rivers of Iowa, Outdoor Alliance, Skunk River Paddlers, and Story County Conservation.
