Ames Miracle Field

Donate your bag refunds, extra change and eat lunch or dinner at the Co-op on Give Back Thursday (Thursday, December 14) to support The Ames Miracle Field during December.

There are more than 1000 children with special needs attending Story County schools. Regardless of whether one is in a wheelchair or has an intellectual disability, all people want and deserve the right to play, which is a vital part of development and inclusion.

The Ames Foundation is currently working to raise $1.8 million dollars to build an all-inclusive playground and Miracle League baseball field at Inis Grove Park.  When complete, the entire project will provide a sensory rich playground experience catering to children with physical, cognitive, and sensory disabilities.  The Miracle Field will offer recreational sports leagues to children and adults with disabilities.  The entire facility will be built on a rubberized turf, providing barrier-free, fully-accessible opportunities.

A child that has had to sit on the sidelines will soon be able to swing a bat, and score a run with her peers.  For the first time, a parent using a wheelchair will be able to play with his child on a playground.  A teen will witness firsthand how individuals with disabilities live and play in their community and appreciate all the things people with disabilities CAN do.  Help give the gift of play and let’s make miracle happen in Ames.
