I am a landscape photographer based in Ames, IA. My journey started in 2016 when I bought a DSLR to capture our road trip across California. As a researcher at ISU, my days are fast paced and chaotic. The whole world slows down when I am outdoors, in nature, with a camera in my hand. It transports me to a world that is just idyllic and helps me forget my worries. the creative artistic and rational analytical parts of my brain a always in a restless juxtaposition. My photography is a reflection of this balancing act. The photographs on display show the beautiful interaction of light with things grand and small.

I am a mandala and zentangle artist based in Ames, IA. My art journey began four years ago to blow off steam after a stressful day. The repetitive patterns and concentric circles, the cornerstone of a mandala, drew me in and I was hooked. I started out drawing traditional patterns and moved on to more complex shapes and colours. Food, travel and nature are a huge part of my life and influence my artwork heavily. I work with basic tools – a sharpie, pencil and paper.

The artwork on display include prints from my Inktober collection, concentric circle designs and my foray into colour.

January & February Artist: Tricia Bowers

Artist Statement

As a person and an artist I value beauty above all, and color is by far my favorite quality of reality and the universe.  As a painter I am free to explore and experiment with color, using different and fun techniques to share my beauty.  I make mostly abstract art, focusing on the moment of creation, on the passion of feeling inspired and the intense eruption of color that my hands are able to bring into the world and onto a canvas.

I use acrylic paint and food coloring for my art, utilizing spray bottles and the swift motion of flinging color.  I paint on canvas, as well as on pavement and the outside world.  While the act of painting for me is often very quick and messy, the results come together in a way that is beautiful and surprising, and in the end incredibly fun.
