The Ames Education Foundation awards Innovation Grants annually to teachers throughout the district. These grants help grades PK-12. The Innovation Grants have helped hundreds of classrooms over the years, and have an impact on 5,000 students each day.
“The mission of the Ames Education Foundation is to provide financial support for innovative educational projects not ordinarily provided through the district’s operating budget.”
This funding for our classrooms is so very important as it helps meet the need in the classroom and helps keep education innovative and students engaged. Last year the Foundation awarded over $18,000 in grants to our classrooms.
Over the years the grant program has funded field trips, physical education, art, music, math, guest artists, microscopes, STEM, instruments, and more. The Foundation also offers the High-Impact Innovation Grant which goes to the top teacher recipient at the elementary level, the middle school level, and the high school level. The High-Impact teacher recipient receives $1,000 for their classroom. This award is based on the fact the teacher is able to explain through the grant process how their need, if it is selected, will make a significant impact on learning in Ames.
Learning is important for all of our Ames students, and this program has helped keep Ames education world class.
On July 1, 2018 our Co-op Nickel program was replaced by “Change for Community.” Instead of being asked to donate your bag refunds you will have the option to round-up to the nearest dollar and donate that change to the monthly Change for Community recipient. Many co-ops around the country have moved their donation program to this structure and they are raising a substantial amount of money for their local organizations!
