Join us at Bronwyn’s backyard (our resident chicken whisperer and co-op superstar) for a beginner-friendly class all about building a basic coop\, caring for your feathered friends\, and embracing the chaos of backyard poultry. No experience needed\, just a sense of humor and maybe a love of omelets.\nThis class will take place at Bronwyn’s back yard. You will receive an email the week before class with the address and parking instructions. We will supply sunscreen and bug spray. Please wear appropriate attire and footwear for an outside class. \nMeet the Instructor! \nBronwyn Beatty-Hansen is a native of Emmetsburg\, Iowa. She moved to Ames to study Political Science at ISU\, and is happy to call Ames home. Bronwyn is the Operations and Human Resources Manager\, and one of the Wine & Beer Buyers for Wheatsfield Cooperative. In addition to working at Wheatsfield\, she has served for 9 years on the Ames City Council.

This is a demonstration-style class\, so come for the skills\, stay for the chips! \nMeet the Instructor! \nSara Reece is a long time enthusiast for all things food preservation. It all started with growing up in a huge family where her mom did a lot of canning and freezing. As an adult\, her continuously achy joints led her to adopt a whole foods diet and she’s never looked back as her symptoms abated. The slow-food concept (food should be grown and bought locally\, prepared with care\, and consumed with appreciation) is one that rings true to her spirit. Sara is delighted to share her expertise in canning and fermentation with her Co-op community.

Come hungry\, leave salad-smitten. \nMeet the Instructor! \nRama Sridhar is an expert chef in vegetarian cooking and has dedicated more than 40 years to communicating the benefits of vegetarian nutrition. Rama’s cooking is based on two fundamental principles: (a) develop recipes that excel in both nutrition and taste and (b) draw and use ideas from all over the globe to develop creative fusion foods. She is a guest Chef at a local restaurant – Lockwood Café – where she offers Indian and International foods. \nRama has a close connection to Ames. She has lived here for 35 plus years and received a Dietetics degree from Iowa State University. She is a diehard Cyclones fan.

You’ll sip and compare styles\, learn what makes a bottle universally appealing\, and leave with confident picks for your next get-together. \nMeet the Instructor! \nBronwyn Beatty-Hansen is a native of Emmetsburg\, Iowa. She moved to Ames to study Political Science at ISU\, and is happy to call Ames home. Bronwyn is the Operations and Human Resources Manager\, and one of the Wine & Beer Buyers for Wheatsfield Cooperative. In addition to working at Wheatsfield\, she has served for 9 years on the Ames City Council. \nIf you have specific dietary restrictions\, please reach out to us in advance before signing up for the class at events@wheatsfield.coop or by calling the co-op at 515-232-4094 and speaking with Sheba Wright\, Education Coordinator. \nLimited substitutions can be made during the class.
