These divine sparks are frequently embedded in the rubble and detritus of everyday existence\, some deeper than others. In my most recent series\, I draw with a random orbital sander in an attempt to uncover as many divine sparks as I can.

I enjoy both painting and drawing. I also do a good amount of finger painting. I am self taught and my art is an expression of emotions that are sometimes hard to define or hard to get out of my head and heart so I try to put them on paper/ canvas. I enjoy abstract art the most.

DESCRIPTION:April Artist: Katharine Silent Walker \nI’m a nomadic printmaker and painter. Identifying a place to call home has always seemed like a strange concept to me\, so that is why I create artwork inspired by anthropology and a culture’s spiritualism. I base my work primarily in Printmaking because of its responsiveness and diversity; allowing emotionally charged subject matter to be translated successfully onto paper. Each print can be interpreted\, or even exaggerated with mixed media to narrate the various parts of the subject matter. \nOrthrus Press came to be when I realized I could no longer keep two identities separate. Being a two-headed dog from Greek Mythology\, Orthrus embodies the old Graffiti entity and the emergence of fine arts. While one dog head holds true to the act of spontaneous free-will creation and resourcefulness; the other side of the beast explores ulterior meanings by digging into cultural background or ancestral roots to express subject matter.

DESCRIPTION:Stop by the Co-op for a sampling of wine and cheese and to enjoy the art opening of Steve Hosch.  \nSteve’s Artist Statement: \nI am an Ames-area mixed media artist. Other than the two years I spent as a frustrated graphic design major in college\, I am a self trained artist. Since 1992\, I’ve worked as a high school special needs educator\, a career choice that requires the much needed catharsis provided by art. In 2005\, I began creating vessels and masks made from hard shell gourds. However\, in the summer of 2010\, my creative attention turned to assemblage and collage\, the latter of which I continue to explore today. Sometimes playful\, sometimes dark\, my art is an attempt to question\, poke fun at\, or criticize human nature\, particularly the consumer\, fear-driven version of human nature that seems to dominate American culture.
